Women keep silent? You must be kidding!
I believe it is time for the church to honor women. Women have carried the faith from generation to generation while their male counterparts have shrugged their responsibility.
The church has quote scriptures out of historical context like “…women should remain silent in church” from 2nd Timothy chapter 2. A false understanding of the historical context has suppressed and dishonored the role of women in church leadership roles for generations. Could it be that the false understanding of these teaching come from the same spirit as when Christian’s claimed Black Americas were inferior to White Americans? The gross part is that these bigots used misquoted Bible verses to prove their hate filled heresies! Hum, that was a bit strong, but no less true.
So what is the historical setting? In the Jewish culture the women were honored only in the role of caring for their husband and children. Women were not allowed to learn from the Scriptures. At the Saturday temple meeting the women were having fellowship time while the men were studying. In that same chapter as quoted above, 2nd Timothy 2, it says, “…let a women learn in silence…”. Maybe you are thinking… well, see there, we are right… but actually, no, you are wrong. The Apostle Paul took the words of Jesus and started a revolution. This was the beginning of the liberation of women. They are now allowed to learn! So they were exhorted to keep quite and learn. Yea God! The women are no longer under the curse of Eve!
In our day finally we are starting to get it. We understand that there is no difference between male and female in their intellectual and ministerial abilities. Have you every notice that in Ephesians 5 where it is told wives to submit to their husbands that there are verses that follow? It says for husbands to love their wives the way Christ loves the churches and gave himself for it. This is a much greater responsibility. If you are pouring love on your wife, then she is commanded to submit to it. I think she will really like to submit to a Christ like man! Are you really interested in believing what the Bible says?
Sure there are genetic differences in areas like strength. Yes, maybe men would make better ditch diggers and women would make better doctors. Here at BSSM I am surrounded by powerful young ladies of the Spirit of God. They seem to do just about everything better than many of the guys when it comes to hearing from God and moving in the gifts of the Spirit. Makes me want to look for some estrogen.
Is it not time for the church to stop interpreting scripture out of historical context? It is so freeing to walk in love and empower all of God’s created lovers. I choose to lay my life down and walk with my wife as a co-labor and equal partner in the inheritance of heaven and honor all women in our co-walk with Jesus.
There is no reason to write me comments about your disagreements. I am to far gone. The love of Christ has wrecked me forever.
Revive on!
